LEAVING LONDON 10 JULY 2007

Well today is the day we are leaving London after 8 months!!!

We are headed to Wallasea near Foulness Island which is at the entrance to the Thames where we will have Alpha Crucis lifted out to be cleaned underneath and everything checked and possibly, if necessary, anti fouled. Then we are heading to the Mediterranean via France but directly across the Bay of Biscay, Spain and Portugal. Once we head through the Straits of Gibraltar we will sailed direct to Italy and the Amalfi Coast! We will be there around mid September.

We have had a very ‘full on’ three weeks with leading up to and including our Baltic cruise and subsequent to this, our trip out west to attend the Henley Royal Regatta last Thursday!!

Our trip to the Baltic was fabulous and as you would expect we made the most of our luxurious 7 days on the lovely Silver Shadow! We enjoyed great company in our friends – Alistair & Charlotte Sutherland who flew from Auckland, Faye and John, Jane and Michael (new friends) – all from England and Carol Ann and Thomas from Atlanta Georgia who arranged for us to go on the cruise! Yes, many stunning and funny times were had by all including a wonderful birthday dinner that Alistair organised for Charlotte in the two Michelin star restaurant on board!

It has been 3 odd years since we sailed on Silversea around South America for 16 days and whilst there are some little ‘cost cutting’ changes we still believe that the excellent service and food standards are still very much alive – it represents great value! However this time 7 days seemed a long haul – we are not sure how we managed the same pace for 16 days!! Nothing to do with age we are sure!

As for the places we visited (some the first for me) we enjoyed it all, Stockholm, St Petersburg, Tallinn & Copenhagen. Terry and I had a little journey down memory lane when we were in St Petersburg - we were there 8 years ago for Xmas – it was quite a different experience in summer! Tallinn was a fabulous medieval walled city which has a good feel when walking around!

We arrived back from the cruise last Tuesday evening and Wednesday we are off to Shiplake to stay with our friends Tim & Ann Raven who had arrange tickets to the Stewards at Henley plus they are members of the Leander Club and had booked lunch for us there. We went all dressed up complete with hats! Terry bought his from Henley! What a day we had and a fabulous experience – another one!! Gosh the British certainly know how to do those sorts of events with tradition and style! The weather wasn’t great but the rain held out for us until the end of the day and we finished off sitting in the Seafood bar under a tree donning umbrellas – just perfect!

Our last night in London last night we had dinner at Chris & Nicky’s lovely apartment on the Thames – a fabulous gourmet meal cooked by Nicky, washed down with some excellent wine. We also took delivery of our specially made hula hoops which Nicky has had made for us as a gift! She must have thought that a little exercise was in order – only joking! Anyway this is exactly what is needed after sitting idle in London for 8 months and especially after our 7 day cruise!

Our contact details from here on; we will retain our mobile number +44 7787793398 and of course our email address alphacrucis@110pct.com. We are going determine whether we subscribe to our sail mail once again but will let you know on this.

Our time in London has come to an end but what a time we have had – wintering over has been a wonderful experience and a feat of endurance! The journey continues or recommences………..!!

Love
